pride

hello peeps....longest time my sweets....so sunday this past weekend was pride day celebrations in winnipeg. it opened up with a march and then celebrations in the afternoon. i decided to go for pride this year because i think it it important to speak up against discrimination and injustice...i have been silent on this topic for so long, i think i was nonchalant or apathetic. one thing i have come to realise is that silence is a way of passively supporting the status quo n if that happens to be discrimination well thats wat it is...the turning point for me happened a week before pride....i had gone to the bar for a friends bday...and for some weird reason...my inner party animal was unleashed...i met a guy in the bar, he was a friend of my friend and he was gay and we hit it off ..... we were definitely best friends for a while...so anyway....the night was awesome until he was discriminated against by a bouncer or security guard....i am going to call out this particular club....if u live in winnipeg u probably know it....it is the republic night club....fun place to party but the staff are totally rude and not very friendly, they also do not have any sitting areas....every stall is vip....so if u not in vip...u kinda of out of luck cos it means that you will stand all night....so anywayssssssssss......me and my friend were dancing on a podium, before we went on, a lot of people guys and girls were on the same podium and no one was told to get off the podium .... that was until i invited my friend to join me in the podium....in less that 3 minutes he was told to get off the podium....and i am 99.9 percent sure that it was because he was gay.....that was it for me....that was the first time that i experieced discrimination in the open, and that was the catalyst for me...it also got me thinking about the topic a little bit more....usually people around here are closet bigots or racist....its never out in the open...and that was why i decided to attend pride this year....so anyways pride was fun, a lot of colourful personalities, good music and awesome people....here r some pics of the day.....i dedicate this post to my friend who just wanted to have fun....and was discriminated against.....u are awesome....sorry i dont remember his name...cos i suck at remembering names.....

so just an add on....i uploaded these pics to fb and in a day i got  a phone call from a friend...they were not happy and comfortable with the pics i uploaded.....and i had a long lecture about how i am african and i am becoming westernised....forgetting where i came from....my reply to this friend and all of you who think so is that .... i know my root, i accept my culture, i accept love, respect, tolerance, human rights, justice and i reject hate and its cousins like discrimination, intolerance and injustice...if that make me less african than you.....i guess that what it is.....and in my favorite two words off all time....SO WHAT..... xoxo sweets
